Dental fillings are used to fill tooth cavities caused by decay or damage. Fillings can relieve tooth pain and sensitivity as well as strengthening the tooth and preventing further damage.

Do I need a dental filling?

You may have a cavity that requires a filling if you are experiencing these symptoms:

    • Sensitivity
    • Toothache
    • Bad breath
    • A dark spot on the tooth

 

After a thorough examination, your dentist will advise you on the most appropriate course of treatment, which may involve a filling.

 

What happens during the filling treatment?

 

Firstly, the dentist will numb the area around the damaged tooth with a local anaesthetic. Your dentist will remove the damaged parts of the tooth and any decay.

 

The dentist will then use an amalgam or resin filling material to fill the hole. Once your bite has been checked, they will smooth and polish the surface to remove rough spots.
